Description:

KAPPA KABANNA matchbook

You are bidding on a rare book of matches from the infamous Kappa Kabanna strip club owned by Elias Camille Ghantous (alias 'Leo Ghantous').  In addition to being owner of the Kappa 'gentlemen's club,' 'Leo' is also a regional minor celebrity:  a 'slip and fall lawyer' from cheesy local commercials.

- Area law enforcement made a bust [pun intended] at the 'Leo Ghantous' Kappa Kabanna Klub during the 2008 Memorial weekend as part of an undercover prostitution sting.

- An area man was charged with the murder of his friend when they fought after celebrating the friend's 21st birthday at the Kappa Kabanna
on December 31, 2002.

- In February 1999 a man filed assault charges against the Kappa Kabana, after an exotic dancer tried to wrap her legs around his neck while holding onto the stripper pole onstage, causing the man to fall off a barstool and hit his head.

- A local newspaper awarded the club with the 'Best Laugh' for a message on the outdoor marquee at Kappa Kabanna that read: Now Hiring All Positions

- 'Leo The Lawyer' was the defendant in five lawsuits against his family...including charges filed by his own mother!

-
On December 31, 2016 an unidentified dead body was found inside of a burned down house at the Kappa Kabanna address.  For years, the house had been used exclusively for storage by the strip bar, according to the County Coroner.

...The 'Leo Ghantous' Kappa Kabanna Klub is still around and its notorious legend is still growing beyond the town's population of 200 people.  However, they stopped making these matches when the statewide smoking ban went into effect, making this
collectable souvenir a hot vintage rarity.

Description:

"READ" poster
Baryshnikov for America's Libraries

Copyright 1984 American Library Association.

Produced by Marketing By Design.

You are bidding on an official American Library Association (ALA Publishing) poster from their Celebrity READ campaign.  Created by the ALA in 1985, each READ poster features a famous person posing with their favorite book (or books).  All celebrities are chosen because of his/her popularity, appeal and visibility to a general audience.  The ALA tries to feature a range of diverse talent who would be great spokespersons for reading to both adults and children.  If you've ever visited your local library (which you hopefully have), you've probably seen a poster like this with an actor, musician or other star persona spotlighted.

This particular poster features Soviet/American dancer, choreographer and actor Mikhail Baryshnikov reading Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.  This was part of the first series in ALA's Celebrity READ posters, released in 1985 (the 1st set included
Bette Midler, Bill Cosby, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Sting).

A great back-to-school gift, for your child's room or college dorm...or, celebrate the kids leaving the nest by turning their old room into your new study/library, and hang this fantastic poster there!

CONDITION:

Because of its age and because it was once displayed at a library, this poster does have signs of wear.  Unfortunately, tape or other sticky used on the back cause some damage to the front when it was rolled (across Baryshnikov's arms).  There is also evidence of tape removal at the corners, which have bends/folds.

TEEMU SELANNE autographed Rookie Card

1991-92 NHL Upper Deck Hockey # 21

A bit of a rarity since Teemu is pictured wearing his trademark #8 uniform number, but signed it with #13 (he was wearing number 13 with the Jets at the time it was autographed).  It is also a true first rookie card:  since Upper Deck secured the rights to the Canada Cup series, they had the first Teemu Selänne hockey card a full season before any other trading card company.

Selänne is seen playing for Team Finland at the 1991 Labatt Canada Cup, the last ever Canada Cup tournament (it was replaced by the World Cup Of Hockey in 1996).

Teemu Selänne is a Stanley Cup champion, a four-time Olympic medalist and a three-time 50 goal scorer.  He won the inaugural Rocket Richard Trophy as NHL goal scoring champ, as well as earning the Calder Memorial Trophy (top rookie, with a record-setting 76 goals and 132 points), Masterton Memorial Trophy (perseverance) and multiple All-Star Team selections.  A national hero in his homeland of Finland, where Selänne is also a pro race car driver (under the alias "Teddy Flash") and the subject of a top-grossing documentary.  In 2017, Teemu Selänne was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in historyTeemu was a lock for the Hockey Hall of Fame, elected in his first year of eligibility;  his rookie records and Olympic stats are likely to stand the test of time.  To top all of his achievements, he's just a really nice guy, a true ambassador of the sport.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (hardcover)
collected by Alvin Schwartz, illustrated by Brett Helquist
Harper, an Imprint of Harper Collins Publishers
Library of Congress catalog card number:  2009934072
ISBN:  9780060835194

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a classic children's horror collection drawn heavily from folklore and urban legends, the first in a series of three.  This first book contains 29 short stories, including "The Big Toe," "The Thing," "The Haunted House," "The Hearse Song," "The Dead Man's Brains," "The Hook," "High Beams," "The Babysitter," "The Viper" and "The Ghost with the Bloody Fingers."

The Scary Stories series is listed as being the most challenged series of books from 1990–1999 (
for its violence), and continued to rank among the most challenged from 2000–2009 by the American Library Association.  The surreal, nightmarish illustrations contained within are also a frequently challenged component of the original books.  Like most of the challenged, restricted, removed or banned books, Scary Stories rates as a literary high-mark, as well as one of the most widely read and remembered.

In January, 2016 it was announced that Guillermo del Toro would develop the books for a feature film, adapted by writer John August.
